How to Connect Claude to Google Sheets
Your business already lives in a spreadsheet. An agent that holds the Sheets connection reads it, appends to it, and keeps it current without another export.
You can have Claude working with Google Sheets in about ten minutes, and you don't have to build or babysit an MCP server to get there. The practical route is a middle layer: connect Google Sheets to myAgents, connect Claude to myAgents, and ask for what you want in plain language. A persistent agent holds the Google Sheets connection, does the work, and reports back to the chat you already use.
Why not wire Claude straight into Google Sheets
You can, if you want to run the plumbing: stand up an MCP server, handle OAuth and token refresh, scope the credentials, and keep it all alive. You own the uptime and the security of that bridge forever, and it serves one assistant. That's fine for developers who enjoy the wiring. If you want the outcome, not the infrastructure, give the connection to an agent team instead.
The three-step setup
- Connect Google Sheets to myAgents. Hire an agent (it takes a couple of minutes), then link Google Sheets from the Connections page. You choose exactly which agents get access.
- Connect Claude to myAgents. On claude.ai: Settings, then Connectors, then add myAgents as a custom connector and approve it. The full walkthrough covers Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, and Gemini too.
- Ask. From Claude you can check on your team, hand work to an agent, and pull up the results. The agent does the Google Sheets work on its side; ask Claude to check in and it reads the reply back to you, or open myAgents and see it there.
What your agent can do in Google Sheets
Your agent finds your spreadsheets, reads ranges, appends rows, updates cells, adds tabs, and creates new sheets. The point is where deliverables land: in the spreadsheet you already run your business on, not in yet another attachment you have to copy from.
What people actually use it for
A tracker that gets a new row every time something happens, without you being the row-adder. A weekly report tab built from the raw data tab. A price list that stays current.
The part a data connector can't do
Most "connect Claude to Google Sheets" tools are pipes: they move data into a chat while you're sitting there. An agent is staff. It has its own schedule, so the work happens whether or not you opened a chat today, and anything that acts on the outside world runs through permissions you granted on purpose. You get a team that keeps working and a log of everything it did.
Hiring the team takes a couple of minutes and starts with free credits to try it, then from $25 a month. You stay the boss. The busywork stops being yours.
Try it on your own work
Hire your first team in about two minutes. $10 in free credits, no credit card required.
Frequently asked questions
- Can Claude edit Google Sheets?
- Through an agent, yes: read ranges, append rows, update cells, add tabs, create sheets. You ask in Claude; the agent does the spreadsheet work and the change is in the sheet when you open it.
- Will it overwrite my data?
- Agents do what they're asked, and every action is logged with what changed. Keep an agent read-focused if you only want reporting, or let it write where you want the upkeep handled.
- Does this replace exports and CSVs?
- Mostly, yes. Instead of exporting data to analyze it in a chat, the agent reads the live sheet and writes results back into it.
