How to Connect Claude to GitHub

An agent that reads the PR, follows the issue, and keeps you posted, with the GitHub access you granted and nothing more.

4 min read·Updated October 9, 2026

You can have Claude working with GitHub in about ten minutes, and you don't have to build or babysit an MCP server to get there. The practical route is a middle layer: connect GitHub to myAgents, connect Claude to myAgents, and ask for what you want in plain language. A persistent agent holds the GitHub connection, does the work, and reports back to the chat you already use.

Promote yourself to boss. Hire your first AI agent in about two minutes. $10 in free credits, no card. It drafts, you approve.

Doesn't Claude already connect to GitHub?

It does. Claude has its own first-party GitHub integration. For questions in a chat, and on plans with scheduled tasks for simple recurring jobs too, it is a genuinely good tool. We'd point you to it even if we sold nothing.

What myAgents adds is the shape of a team, not a feature toggle. Each agent is a role with its own skill and only the GitHub access you chose to grant it. Every run is logged and itemized. Outward permissions are per channel and per agent: some actions queue for your approval, others run as soon as you grant them, and nothing widens on its own. And agents hand work to each other, so the GitHub work connects to the rest of your back office instead of living in one assistant's thread. A personal assistant and a staffed office are both useful. They are not the same thing.

The three-step setup

  1. Connect GitHub to myAgents. Hire an agent (it takes a couple of minutes), then link GitHub from the Connections page. You choose exactly which agents get access.
  2. Connect Claude to myAgents. On claude.ai: Settings, then Connectors, then add myAgents as a custom connector and approve it. The full walkthrough covers Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, and Gemini too.
  3. Ask. From Claude you can check on your team, hand work to an agent, and pull up the results. The agent does the GitHub work on its side; ask Claude to check in and it reads the reply back to you, or open myAgents and see it there.

What your agent can do in GitHub

Your agent reads and writes code, manages issues and pull requests, starts and dismisses reviews, and subscribes to PRs and issues for live updates. It acts with the GitHub user token from your OAuth handshake, so its permissions are exactly yours, nothing invented.

What people actually use it for

A PR watcher that summarizes review activity while you build. Issue triage that labels and routes what comes in overnight. A daily digest of what moved across the repos you care about.

Where this goes next

One agent with one connection is the starting point. The same team can hold your other tools, work them on its own schedule, and keep a log of everything it did, so the GitHub agent is usually the first hire, not the last.

Hiring the team takes a couple of minutes and starts with free credits to try it, then from $25 a month. You stay the boss. The busywork stops being yours.

Try it on your own work

Hire your first team in about two minutes. $10 in free credits, no credit card required.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude access my GitHub repos?
Claude has its own first-party GitHub integration. It covers working in a chat or a coding session. A myAgents agent is for the watching: it holds its own OAuth grant (exactly your GitHub user's permissions), subscribes to PRs and issues, and reports on a schedule.
Can it write code and open PRs?
It can read and write code and manage issues and PRs. Most people start it on triage and watching, then widen the lane as trust builds.
How is this different from GitHub Copilot?
Copilot helps while you type. A persistent agent works between your sessions: watching, triaging, and summarizing on a schedule.
